    Building a culture of safety at any organization hinges on solid internal communication among relevant stakeholders. Incident- or safety-related communications must be prompt, accurate and offer straightforward directions regarding next steps—inciting appropriate actions to address any hazards that could interfere with safety.

    Take risks. Be rewarded.

    The average age of an insurance professional is 59, according to a McKinsey and Company study that highlights the not-so-far-off retirement of a vast group of individuals in the insurance industry. The forthcoming churn could mean a depletion of institutional knowledge from organizations if they don’t have younger employees in place to absorb industry veterans' knowledge before they exit the workforce.

    I’ll let the scientists of the world argue over whether climate change is driving more frequent and severe weather patterns. What I will argue is that any organization that is unprepared for severe weather events—regardless of frequency—is putting its business on the line.

    Combat cargo theft with analytics and reporting

    Ironically, cargo theft is often “driven” by where trucks are parked. Recent reports from CargoNet, a division of Verisk Analytics, and the Transported Asset Protection Association Europe, found a positive correlation between cargo theft from trucks and roadside parking.
